Don’t wait until the next life
Gaby graduated with a master’s degree in journalism when Argentina was in its worst crisis. Unemployment was in the 20% range, and there were riots in the street. It was a horrible situation and a horrible time to look for a job. She spent 18 months knocking on doors, but no one would even take someone on as an unpaid intern. In times like these, we tend to think that our situation reflects who we are as a professional.
Gaby started to give up on her future, carelessly saying that she wished she could be like the person on TV in the next life. Her future husband asked her why she’d wait until the next life if media is so important to her. That question, from someone who knew her and loved her, changed Gaby’s life.
The Virtuous Circle
Gaby has had the privilege of talking to pioneers and super achievers from all walks of life. After interviewing for over 15 years, she noticed commonalities, which she named the virtuous circle. Inside this circle, there are seven archetypes. Using these archetypes together is necessary to become a successful leader. In her book, The Virtuous Circle, Gaby explains all these types and how you can use them to achieve your dreams.
Gaby gave us a brief description of how the archetypes work together. The first is the dreamer. That’s what allows you to visualize your dream. Dreaming by itself won’t make things happen. You need the following type, the architect, to do the planning. Planning and ideas don’t make changes. For that, you need the maker archetype. These archetypes continue to work with each other until finally you have achieved what you set out to do and can use these achievements to help others through leadership.
Talent is abundant
What is scarce is the determination to take that talent and use it in an extraordinary way. Enthusiasm has to be aligned with talent. When that happens, sacrifices seem smaller. You’ll be more willing to wake up early and spend hours training. Putting time and effort into things becomes easier. This aligning interest with passion is what leads to determination. Gaby has created her version of success. By following her example, you can achieve great things too.
