Breaking down to begin life

Adam says that when he had his spiritual awakening in 2013 and he felt like he came home to himself. He had gone through the most difficult year of his life in 2012. All of the different pillars of his identity, whether career, finances, or physical health, just kind of crumbled away. He was down to a financial zero. He got into a car accident where someone ran a stop sign and needed hip surgery. He was having migraines. There was just so much that was falling apart. Out of pure desperation, he reached out to the only ”spiritual” person he knew and that one act would change and evolve his entire life and lead to Adam’s spiritual awakening. He doesn’t care for the term “spiritual awakening” he feels as if it's overused and commoditized but he says he doesn't know a better term because you don't know that you were sleeping until you wake up. Check out the episode to hear more about Adam’s journey including his ayahuasca ceremony.

When do we become what others expect of us?

Social conditioning is a process that's generational when we don't heal. There's an interesting study where they found that you can see genetic markers in someone's DNA that can tell you if they're descendants from survivors of the Holocaust. That tells us that trauma, deep trauma, is passed down in our very DNA. What that means is the stuff that you don't heal you pass on to your kids. Generationally that DNA and those wounds and triggers and limiting beliefs become the mindset that gets passed down. We aren't running from wolves anymore, we are running from our own demons

Art is a permission slip into someone’s emotions

Our fears, doubts, and insecurities around survival now look so much different. For instance, How am I going to find fulfillment? How am I going to find happiness? How am I going to find a job that I like? There are a lot of these sorts of issues people are facing and because they don't necessarily activate the fight or flight responses, in the same way, we don't talk about them. We are raised to suck it up, man up, don’t cry, don’t complain, don’t show emotion.

That is then mirrored in our media. One of the reasons why Adam is so passionate about art is that he believes that art is the highest leverage way to shift human consciousness. Art is a permission slip into someone's emotions and someone's emotions are the permission slip to shifting their life. Every real change that happens in your life, every moment of expansion comes hand in hand with an emotional expansion. It needs to happen on an emotional level to rewrite our brains. Adam thinks art is the way that we do that.
