What are psychedelics and what is a psychedelic experience?
According to Zappy, a psychedelic compound is something that has a psychoactive effect on the brain. What we're realizing is it's not quite that localized. From a standpoint of wording, it's not a drug anymore. These aren't psychedelic drugs, they are medicines. When you refine that further, you’d say everything around us is just energy. These psychedelic plants or psychedelic compounds are just energies. Just like sugar which has a certain frequency. You put the sugar in your body and you get some type of frequency. You synthesize that energy with yours and you might feel good or have physical energy from the sugar.
These plant medicines, for the most part, are derived from nature. You take these compounds, putting that frequency inside of you, and then you synthesize it. What these psychedelics seem to do is to take off some of the filters that we naturally have in our scanning devices. Humans are basically just scanning devices, scanning for danger, scanning for food, just scanning everything. We have these filters that we've put on our consciousness. When you take a psychedelic compound, part of what that does is it takes some of those filters off. Filters that we naturally have on get lifted and we can see, feel, and hear things in a more present state.
Being in a present moment awareness
Zappy thinks our brains are incredible, beyond a supercomputer. He says they are the most advanced technology that exists. He believes we are using our limited five senses and we are using a lot of what our physical senses tell us. When people have a near-death experience, all of a sudden they've widened their scope. They're like, “oh wow, everything is not what it seems”.
What happens right there in that experience? What chemical is inducing our brain or our body?
Zappy doesn’t think it's necessarily chemical. He thinks what's happening is that in that moment you shut off your five senses and you go into this present moment state. That's why sometimes when an accident is happening, we feel time slow down. You go into present moment awareness. It's like a mother lifting a car off of her child. She doesn't say, “wait a minute this is a car, it's too heavy”. She just goes in present moment awareness says, “I have to lift this” and she just moves it. She doesn't think about gravity and weight and all these things. When you get yourself into that present moment awareness, you realize that anything's possible.
What micro-dosing does that's incredible
Micro-dosing is usually psilocybin mushrooms or LSD. You're taking one-tenth of a normal dose. A normal dose of psilocybin is one gram but you're only taking a 10th of a gram. The point of a microdose is that it's sub-perceptual. You're not having a hallucinogenic experience. It's kind of like homeopathic medicine, where you give yourself a tiny little bit of the medicine and it triggers your body's response.
When you take a microdose of these things, it opens up your body, your mind, and your spirit to be able to do what it can do naturally, but you're triggering it. You do that maybe twice a week with a microdose of mushrooms or LSD. The benefit that you get is that you are more present. I've found, personally, that on the days that I microdose I'm very present. I'm still able to hang out with my kids and go do work and do everything I need to do, but I'm very present. I noticed on the days in between my decision-making is very, very clear. I think we all need that. I know psilocybin micro-dosing will eliminate all antidepressants when people take it they say, “You know what? I think this is what people who take antidepressants are trying to feel like.”
